Flight Delayed to Bloomberg NBT? NBD.

The Bloomberg Next Big Thing Summit (NBT) is a two day conference that brings together influential investors, entrepreneurs, and other thought leaders to discuss the future of tech, business, and how innovation is changing the human experience and the world.  Missing the event would be, well, a big thing, especially for a panelist.

That’s what almost happened on the morning of day two of NBT when Planetary Resources Co-founder, Beam customer, and panelist, Eric Anderson’s flight was delayed just hours before his time slot.  When we received a call asking if we could help Eric get to the Summit, we had three short hours to drive over from Palo Alto and set him up in Half Moon Bay.  Without time for a pre-event survey or network test, our team members, Alex and George, were able to mic Eric up and get him out on stage right on time.  Eric’s audio and video was seamless, enabling him to participate for the entire talk in real-time.  Afterward, Eric mingled in the hallway with attendees.

This situation highlights an important value we have at Suitable Tech: reliability.  Remote presence should be as reliable as picking up the phone or turning on your car–it must work every single time.  The imperative of being reliable is why we’ve built everything from the ground up, and it’s why we were able to rapidly deploy a Beam to allow a speaker to participate even when he could not physically be there.  Now if only we could get Beam on an asteroid…
